In a program aired on 7 September 2008 the anchor of the religious program 'Alam Online', Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain--also former federal minister for religious affairs--declared the murder of Ahmadi sect members to be necessary (Wajib ul Qatal) according to Islamic teachings, because its followers don't believe in the last prophet, Mohammad, peace be upon him. Dr. Aamir repeated his instruction several times, urging fundamentalists Muslims to kill without fear. While on air the anchor person also pressured the other two Islamic scholars (from two different sects) on the program to support the statement. This resulted in a unanimous decision among the scholars, on air during a popular television show, to urge lynching with the intent to kill. This was not a one-off. On September 9, Mr. Hussain answered a query with the comment that blasphemers are liable to be put to death. According to the information received, at 1:15pm on September 8, 18 hours after the broadcast, six persons entered the Fazle Umer Clinic, a two-story hospital at Mirpur Khas city and two of them went to the second floor and started pressuring 45 year-old Dr. Abdul Manan Siddiqui to come downstairs to attend to a patient in crisis. Dr. Manan left his office and descended into an ambush. He was shot 11 times and died on the spot. His private guard was also shot and is in a serious condition. A woman was also injured by firing. The killers remained at the hospital until the doctor was declared dead, then they walked out of the building's front entrance. Police registered the killers as unknown. On September 9, 48 hours after the broadcast, Mr. Yousaf, a 75 year-old rice trader and district chief of the Ahmadi sect was killed on his way to prayer in Nawab Shah, Sindh province. Yousaf was fired on from people on motor bikes, and sustained three bullet wounds. He died on the way to the hospital. The assailants had taken a route past a police station. No one was arrested.
The above horrifying and disgusting episode is quoted from the ASIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION's Urgent Appeal Case: AHRC-UAC-203-2008 which urges you to email the powers that be to take immediate action. The jihaalat spread online by this sicko and lapped up as the Gospel Truth by millions, thanks to Geo (Aor Marnay Do?) was bound to eventually to come to this. It is no secret how/why Aamir, a hot favourite of the ex-President (Mush is reported, by his wife, to have wept at Aamir's sermons and naats), continued to remain a federal minister - for Religious Affairs, no less! - even after his claims regarding his degrees (required for holding office) were proved to be fraudulent. It was for the same reason that Dr. Isa Daudpota "tried to canvass for getting him off Geo but failed!" ... but, now that his support has been taken away, there is no reason why he cannot be hauled into court for inciting to murder, if the AHRC report is true.
Let's face it, our media and schools and some mosques have been propagating what some refer to as a hardline version of Islam. Listen to the fiery mince-no-words Israr Ahmed or the king of warped logic Zakir Naik (who even seems to have stunned his normally clapping supporters into silence with his thought processes). Not just in Pakistan but throughout the Muslim Ummah we hear the steadily increasing sound of violent talk. At home, the PMC Faisalabad incident (read Note), may seem minor compared to the current tragedy, but it was yet another example of the apathy of the majority that allows this escalation. For an example from the UK, watch this British Mulla. In fact, even the services of poor old Mickey Mouse have been enlisted in the cause of spreading hatred. Is NOTHING sacred?

I was sad and felt disgusted but definitely not surprised. This is something that the custodians of religion in this part of the world have always indulged in and earned public support as well.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is only in Pakistan that one can legally and socially get away with murder on so many pretexts...sometimes it is honor killing, sometimes the blasphemy law comes in handy and sometimes it is sects like Ahmedis that satiate our murder streak. Is murder in our blood, I really wonder.
Who cares for bigger problems that we the Muslims are facing globally? who cares for the terrorism tag pinned on our chests? who cares for all the insults hurled on us by the rest of the world? our state of failure, helplessness, humiliation and malaise despite our resources and strength of numbers should have been an eye opener. But when our focus is on securing a slot in heaven by going on a killing spree, then what else matters?
When did Allah delegate the authority to judge and decide to us? when did we get the carte blanche to kill harmless people unprovoked? Since when did the "right path" become so drenched with blood? As far as I know, Islam is not a religion that preaches bloodshed and killing; it is not a religion that promotes hatred but thanks to our distorted concepts, we ourselves have given the world ample reasons to attack this beautiful religion that actually promotes peace, love, harmony, brotherhood and unity.
Horror story ZAK!! Condemn it condemn it condemn it with all our hearts!!
ReplyDeleteTrue, the guy became hot after the last presidents public endorsement of him , and he did touch a few cords in the hearts of many with his then Sunni Shiite dialogue.
But the problem with human nature is that the moment you get a little power you start manipulating it satanically, and lose your judgment.
The same thing happened here, Mr. AOL found religion but lost judgment. And why should geo network be left??? while working on a high paycheck at on geo television which has shady connections and controversies with US govt. and funding. In the name of “independent journalism”

I don’t think Musharraf endorsed Amir liaquat after the latter’s confidence boost had pushed him to delivering fatwa’s.
I was working with A around the time and she and her family expressed same nauseating ness over the guy that the rest of us had begun to feel after 100 episodes of AOL.
even MQM distanced themselves from him along time ago and recently about a week ago, just after the first program went on air the MQM officials issued the statement the that they have no connection with AL and his wasn’t a party member for a here and half.
Its a pity seriously! That a know it all so called Islamic scholars have drooped to spreading fundamentalism now!
If fundamentalism is coming in the name of warped Islamic extremism, then surely Aamir online and GEO TV is a perpetrator too! they must be must be punished!!
No one should be killed because of his or her religion.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that there must be a problem with the interpretations that hardliners have been making of Islam. After all, no major religion of the world preaches the killing of any one due to differences in religious beliefs.
BTW, another blog-post on the subject is to be found at http://asma.eomag.com/743/ .
Amir Liaquat and his two buddies on Geo (what are their names?) should be blacklisted by all TV channels. Is there an umbrella organizations of these channels who can consider such a request?
ReplyDeleteGeo ought to have taken Amir off the air ages ago when his fake degrees became public. I guess his good-looks, histrionics and the brew of religious claptrap pulls in brain-dead viewers and ad revenues.
Isa Daudpota
Right on, Isa. And, along with this lot, all the other TV programming that offers hate-speech.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to have some disclaimers attached to programs that endanger lives via false medical claims. Something along the lines of a visible red band that states: "WARNING - Medical Science Research does not confirm the validity of these claims as data has not been submitted for analysis."
(The only reason I think Diabetics don't call back to complain about the failure of some of the goods sold by quacks on TV is because dead men tell no tales.)
As horrific as this stroy is, unfortunately, I dont see an end to this. The fanaticsim coming from West in the name of War on terror and in the form of bombs and deaths for scores of poorest of the poor people would not let all this stop at any point soon.
ReplyDeleteI would hold not only ALH but Geo and the molvies coming on the show responsible for this.
I would also hold the socio economic situation that drives people to barbarism like this and the way we saw in Balochistan a few days ago.
You asked us to 'act now' ... well I dont know how...
whenever i read about this....i feel like someone is punching in my heart and i feel so helpless
ReplyDeletei cant do anything else than to pray to Allah Almighty

Hi,
Actually the programme which was telecast on 7 sept against Ahmadi the Fuking aamir liaqat and his bitch so called molvies who knows nothing about the islam they said that ahmadi pplz murdered is allowed. So i asked a one thing with Bastered Aamir Liaqat Hussain what happened in last year when he says wrong about the Shiya Firqa what they have have done with him. Aamir did u know that murdered is not allowed of any human being. About so called molvis of Pakistan who always running behind the money and govt seats. They did’nt know about the Islam if they think that islam is split on a blade of a sword so i will advised both Bastered Aamir Liaqat Hussain and his gay partners go and read the history again. What happened after his programme two innocent peoples were killed of this Firqa who always help poors, Dr Maanan was a doctor who helps poors and free medical treatment of pplz. But who cares Aamir liaqat has received money for that programme and got good on that day. i did’nt think that he is a educated man. Shame on u all basters in which our molvis contribution 100%.

At what point will idiocy be “Wajib ul Qatal”? Killing someone for their religious beliefs, even if they contradict yours, is bloody ridiculous. At soome point Muslims need to enter the modern era and realize killing people because they don’t believe your fiction is a throwback to the stone-age.
Bah! Okay, next person to “blaspheme” against common sense dies. That’s my new religious belief. God told it to me. Arguing with that is against my belief system. I will brook no criticism.
Dear Anonymous ... (the one who said "2 Comments from on Teeth Maetro's post on Same Issue. Enjoy.")
ReplyDeleteThanks for these but:
1. It is a lot better if commenters can also provide links to the site[s] from which the comments (or quotes) are taken, so readers of ths blog can also read the posts and views of others.
2. It would also be useful to include links to the commenters sites (I think Sami has one), for the same reason.
a sad but true state ZAK!
ReplyDeletei term Pakistan as a 'wannabe' muslim state.....and like all wannabees, we end up messing up the basic concepts to the extent of going absolutely 180 degrees!
this is just one slice of the entire rotten cake!
i had made a similar post...not this horrible, but equally up to the point:
http://farrukhahmed.blogspot.com/2008/08/teach-diff-in-halal-and-haraamby.html
Qadiyanis / Ahmedis are not a sect in Islam. FOR GOD SAKE, clear this issue in mind. They are non-Muslims even declared by Pakistan Government.
ReplyDeleteI also do not buy the argument, “When did Allah delegate the authority to judge and decide to us?” I remember this argument was given in the speeches of our previous president in some of his speeches. He meant by this that we cannot decide in this world that what is right or wrong. May Allah guide him and make him really ‘enlightend’. Actually for such situations our great Prophet has guided us as mentioned below:
Al-Irbad said, “One day the Apostle of Allah (Mohammad peace be upon him) led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid. A man said: Apostle of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us? He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my Sunnah and that of the rightly-guided caliphs (Khulfa-e-Rashideen). Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation (BIDAT), and every innovation is an error”. (Abu Dawood)
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “There will befall my Ummah exactly (all those) evils which befell the people of Isra'il, so much so that if there was one amongst them who openly committed fornication with his mother there will be among my Ummah one who will do that, and if the people of Isra'il were fragmented into seventy-two sects my Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects. All of them will be in Hell Fire except one sect. They (the Companions) said: Allah's Messenger, which is that? Whereupon he said: It is one to which I and my companions (SAHABA) belong”. (Tirmidhi)
When Islam says to kill someone or when not? And who is authorized to kill? Please ask these questions from learned Ulema and not from GEO TV.
Be careful these days as Mr. Bush has allowed US forces to attack Pakistan . So the US led terrorism has now started in Pakistani areas also. Approximately 5 lakh people from Bajur are now living in camps due to this terrorism. I hope Mr. Kidvai also write something on this issue.
Mr. QidvaiI should also write any thing about Dr. Aafia Siddique and how she was tortured and abused in the US camp in Afghanistan . And her missing innocent children.
Some people among us are very much worried about our image in the western world. I would say to them that they should also be worried about our image in front of Allah, Who will ultimately be deciding whether we will for ever go to hell or paradise.
If someone has any doubt in mind about Ahmedis, kindly read the attached book on Qadiyanism.
I haven't seen any one raising an eye brow on the killings of hundreds of innocent people in the name of terrorism in Waziristan. No one in this email or the blog is interested in removing the terrorist tag from the chests of Muslims and putting it back to the greatest terrorists of all who is blatantly violating basic human rights in Afghanistan. There is no concern for those who have been kidnapped and kept in Guantanamo for years without access to courts, attorneys or fair trail; and Quran being flushed down the toilet. How many times did this email or the blog from Zaheer Kidavi points out cluster bombing and phosphorus bombs being used against Iraqis on a false pretext to war and calling those people terrorists who defend their homeland.
ReplyDeleteI don't endorse the killing of anyone and therefore point out that the blood of an ahmadi is no thicker than the blood of a poor tribes man, woman or a child who gets killed in any other part of the world. How many times you send out emails pointing out the murderous rampage in the name of 'War on Terror' which should really be called 'War of Terror'.
I understand that in our country, people commit murder and get away with it.... but which country in this world can claim that doesn't happen? There are more chances of getting killed in LA, Chicago and New York on a street in broad daylight than getting killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. The difference is that the killers in these societies remain hidden after fulfilling their hunger for blood which can described as hypocrisy at its best. If you think killing of an ahmadi, which gets international attention and everyone talking and writing about, is more important than the killings of Muslim men, women and children else where, then think again. Oh I get it may be you don't even know about those killings. Is killing any worst than hypocrisy or choosing to be ignorant.
Oh by the way, I love this part that in order to make a point, how Mr. Kidvai removed all the conditions that Amir Liaqat described in his statement; how convenient. Now people have got a chance to become champions of 'religious freedom' after being benefited from NRO and without being questioned for ordering killings of hundreds in Karachi (I hope you remember those corpses in bags that are frequently found in Karachi). Think again if you thought these issues are not interrelated.
I read the comments of anonymous.. why hide behind the "anonymous" veil... at least we are what we are, we say what we believe in without hiding our identities.. coz we arent afraid of any backlash from the likes of anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why when a specific topic is being discussed people bring another issue up and present it as a justification for their argument? I mean this post was about amir liaqats provocative remarks on ahmadis.. where did iraq, waziristan and war on terror come in here? Im sorry I dont find any relevance and I am not convinced.
I stand by my argument that we have no right, and I repeat, we have no right to pronounce any human being wajib-ul-qatl and to pass remarks that may incite people to go on a killing spree..
everyone has a fundamental right to live, a right granted by Allah alone and a right only He can snatch, neither u nor me.
PAKISTAN OR MULLAHSTAN? - that is the question we need to ask ourselves. The following is a fact - MUSLIMS LOVE TO KILL MUSLIMS AND JUSTIFY IT IN THE NAME OF GOD ALMIGHTY, they also get their kicks out of declaring other sects non muslims whether its sunnis,shias,wahabis......
ReplyDeleteI am not here to comment about any sect of Islam. Just want to clarify things according to my understanding and contribute my two cents.
ReplyDeleteIf you truly believe in Islam and understand then you will definitely agree that Islam is a way of life, to be implemented and followed in every walk of life, in everything you do, in the society as a whole and the complete infrastructure that we are in. We are ordered by Allah and Prophet Muhammad PBUH to call people to good and refrain from evil, do the right and refrain from wrong and besides all these we have to call others to enjoin this good and refrain from the wrong/bad.
An Islamic state means all these criteria are being fulfilled otherwise the state is not entitled to be called Islamic. Now if we are Muslim then we know that Islam is the only right way of life and this means other religions are definitely not the right way. So as Muslims and the citizens of an Islamic state, we have the responsibility to call people to leave the wrong they are following in their religion and join the right way of doing things which are asked by Islam. We have the responsibility to stop the wrong things that other religions promote. Therefore, we can't allow them to preach what is wrong. That may apparantly look like we are suppressing the minorities i.e. the other religions. But if we are not making an effort to help Islam prevail in every walk of life then we are not eligible to be called Muslims.
This does not at all mean that we have to kill minorities if they are not accepting Islam. Islam cannot spread by force. Even Prophet Muhammad PBUH forgave and ordered to protect all the non-believers of Makkah after fatah-e-Makkah. They must be protected, respected, allowed to practice theirs beliefs, given the facilities by state. But when it comes to something related to managing the affairs of the state, making laws, enforcing laws, administrative controls etc. then an Islamic state cannot allow non-Muslim to be in an authoritative position, the simple reason is that he does not believe in Islam and therefore will not be making policies and decisions inside the principles of Islam. And if its not being done like that then its not an Islamic state. This is the reason for not having non-muslims in authoritative positions b/c Islam considers foremost every other qualifications, a human being should be a firm believer of principles taught in Quran and Sunnah. So in the merit criteria, observance of Islamic principles comes first and if its not there anything else, no matter how attractive it may look, will not work.
This does not mean in an Islamic state there is hatred against non-muslims. Our task is to spread the message of Islam and they have the right to either reject and accept it. But if they are trying to enforce their views and change the Islamic way fo doing things then we have to stop it. If they are using words to spread, we have to use words to stop it. If they are trying to spread it by force, we have to apply force to stop them, and if they are using violence for it then we have to stop it by an equal reply. That is our duty.
I feel very sorry when I see that muslims dont understand the value of Islam as a way of life. Instead of changing themselves to follow the rules, they try and find justifications for their own way of doing things for which they even change/distort the teachings of Islam. They start thinking themselves as right and forget that they need to follow Islamic teachings instead of following traditions/cultures and their own habits. They fear people ( who are better in worldly status) and care about their reactions the most and does not think about how they will stand before Allah when they are leading life to please high ranked/status people and not the Almighty Allah who is in all rights to be feared most.
The contradictions among Islamic sects is really shameful even when we are provided with clear guidance. We distort and try to make it easy for our own benefits and worse ever, try to prove that wrong as a right. And we do this only because we cant make ourselves bear the hardships that Allah requires from us.
Prayers for All.
